Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. She was part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
